Martin’s Epic 3 Marathon fundraiser for Teenage Cancer Trust
My Story
Like most families, ours has been affected by cancer. Losing my uncle, my father’s twin brother, to pancreatic cancer. My father survived thyroid cancer. Bouts of skin cancer. The hardest though was my cousin’s daughter, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at age 14; even though there was an initial reprieve, it soon came back and despite the best efforts, expert treatment and support from Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) unit at the Leeds General Infirmary she lost her brave battle 5 years later.
Money donated will help fund this special charity, ensuring it can support other teenagers and their families throughout treatment and, hopefully, into remission.
In 2014, my working lifestyle with my business transformation company led me to weigh 154kg/340lb with a 54"/137cm waist at age 43, feeling like I was 74, lethargic, warn out and not as performant as I once was with backache, brain fog and trouble breathing and even getting out of bed was a struggle. By age 45, I weighed just 94kg/207lb with a 32”/81cm waist, feeling fantastic and performing better than I ever have.
I now specialise in transforming busy and overweight business owners and consultants into fitter, happier, and more confident people because I understand the unique challenges you face and why, up until this point, it has not been easy to fit your health into your lifestyle.
I continued to set myself new challenges to “walk the talk”, which included starting in February 2024, when I was not a runner, supporting my wife in achieving one of her ambitions, running a 10K race, I had to start running. As an asthmatic, this was a daunting prospect, as I have been hospitalised in the past. However, in 6 months, I had gone from not running to competing in the York 10k, raising money for the RNLI as part of my 10K journey.
Now my challenge is to complete the London Marathon on the 27th of April 2025, 14 months after I started to run, followed by the Milton Keynes Marathon the next week on the 5th of May and then the Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon on the next within 2 weeks on the 11th of May.
I've publicly shared my journey from “couch” to 10k on social media and will continue to do so through my training and events. I am really happy to run the world’s most famous Marathon. I am seeking sponsorship and support to complete all 3 marathons on behalf of Teenage Cancer Trust.
Please give what you can by donating via this page. Thank you!
