I was recently featured on BBC Radio York with Sarah Urwin reflecting on our recent snow sculpting adventure in the Austrian Alps. My partner Justin Scott and I had the incredible opportunity to participate in an international snow sculpting competition, where we took on the challenge of creating a large sculpture of Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards https://www.bbc.co.uk/schedules/p00fzl90

A big thank you to Sarah Urwin and the team at BBC Radio York!

Our goal was to celebrate Eddie’s iconic legacy from the Calgary Olympics, and we ended up with a sculpture that was over 15 meters long and 5 meters high—about the size of a double-decker bus!

Hearing Eddie himself praise our work, especially noting that we "got his chin just right”, was an absolute highlight. It was great to know that he was happy with how we captured his likeness, right down to the helmet and goggles.

We were thrilled to place fourth in the competition, especially considering that we were up against professional wood carvers and snow sculptors who do this full-time. For a business consultant and business body fitness and lifestyle coach like me and a tree surgeon like Justin, that’s quite an achievement! Our sculpture was not just big, but also interactive—we love creating pieces that people can engage with. Watching kids climb the tower we built, pretending to be Eddie at the top of the slope, was incredibly rewarding. Families were taking photos and enjoying the experience, which made all the hard work worthwhile.

As for what’s next, we’ve been invited back to compete again next year, and we’re already brainstorming new ideas. Justin is even considering exploring sand sculpting as our next challenge, possibly setting up a competition along the East Coast. While snow is our main medium, sand could be an exciting new frontier for us.

Thanks for following our journey, and I look forward to sharing more as we continue to push our creative boundaries! Whether in snow or sand, we’re eager to see where our sculpting adventures take us next.
