Are You Giving Your Domain Name The Respect It Deserves?

Are you treating your domain name with the respect that it deserves?

How you are securing your own domain name?  I ask because I find there are so many people out there who aren’t really giving it the attention it requires. The reality is that this one of the key assets that you have in your business.  You’re drawing other people from around the world to your company through your website, your email address, and other assets underpinned by your domain name.

One vitally important thing is to make sure the correct details are on your domain registration.  Perhaps your details have changed since you registered your domain?  In any case – if the correct details are not on there then your updates or any messages from the registrar may not be reaching you.  And if THAT is the case, there is a possibility that you will lose your domain name at some point in the future.

What would that actually mean for your brand, let alone for your own time and your own sanity in trying to recover from that potential disaster?  Don’t think it couldn’t happen to you.  It happens all the time, and there are professional url sales companies just waiting for companies to forget to re-register ur update or pay for their domain renewal.

Also, when you start thinking about domain names and how you’re securing them, ask yourself if your domain is registered with a Gmail or Yahoo account?

The problem with these kinds of addresses is that they’re easily hacked and we’ve heard multiple reports on the news where this has been the case recently and where people have lost access to their online property,  because the system’s been hacked from Apple, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo or other large organisations that provide free email addresses.

So, go check what email your domain name is registered under, and if it is a free one – change it or risk losing it!
