Celebrate The Good Times!

business May 20, 2022

In this article I would like to chat about something which I find people usually don’t do enough and as a result,  they miss out on an  opportunity to feel good!

When you do this, you will feel amazing, and the best thing is – the more you do it, the more you amazing you feel!

What I am talking about is celebrating, specifically celebrating the good times, celebrating the successes in your life.

Let’s face it, in your ordinary life when things are just routinely going on around you, sometimes there seems to be nothing to celebrate.  Maybe you are having a horrible time with things going wrong all around you. All you wish for is to be some other place, on some remote desert island away from your difficulties, getting on with your life in a completely different way.

So – What If You Think There is Nothing To Celebrate?

Here’s the thing though – those fateful or mundane days are not every day of your life. So, the rest of the time it is important to try and find even the smallest of things to celebrate from the situations around you. Because I’m sure that in everybody’s life, there is happiness.  There is a way, there is a thing to be happy about.  With luck, and with a focus on the positive, there are usually more points where happiness and joy are around you than the times when happiness is absent.  Therefore, you will have in all likelihood, many chances to celebrate the things you can be happy about.

So, if you can identify these small things to celebrate the craziest thing that happens is this.  You will find even more things around you to celebrate. Consequently, you will become even happier and find yet more things to celebrate.

Now I don’t mean to do this in a way that dismisses any of the failures we have in our lives. It was Bill Gates who said, “It’s fine to celebrate success, but it’s more important to heed the failures”.  Because the reality is we tend to learn more from our failures than we do from our successes.  But let’s face it, we don’t want to have a life where the only thing we’re doing is having failures every day.

The truth about failure and success

The truth is – life is full of “failures” because failure is just something that hasn’t worked YET.  In marketing they call it testing, and that’s the way it SHOULD be seen.  If you focus just on ‘failure’ then that would be very demoralising. The reality of life is that there are going to be tough times when things that don’t go to plan. It’s about reframing that and also making sure that when you have success you take the time to celebrate it.

So, the challenge for you over the next week is to find a thing to celebrate every single day even if it’s just one item. Because if you don’t, you might end up looking back over that week thinking, “Oh my god, what a dreadful time that was”. But the reality probably was that there was so much to celebrate.

I’m going to leave you with one last thought, and that’s a quote by Oprah Winfrey:

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate and praise!”
